IVF-Life is one of Europe’s leading assisted reproduction clinics, known for advanced reproductive solutions to complex fertility cases and high success rates, which attracts hundreds of couples from different parts of the world. With its recent Gold Membership of the MTA, IVF-Life is poised to redefine fertility care for millions of international patients around the world, delivering world-class care with cutting edge technologies
In this interview, IVF-Life sits with Medical Tourism Association (MTA) to discuss its breakthroughs in fertility treatments and its vision for the global market.
What do you do and how has your experience in the healthcare industry been?
IVF-Life is a group of assisted reproduction clinics that are among the highest-rated in Spain. We have a presence in three Spanish cities (Alicante, Madrid, and San Sebastián) and specialize in complex fertility cases, serving patients from around the world who are drawn by our high success rates. Some of these patients come to us after multiple failed treatments at other centers, averaging 3.6 previous attempts, and achieve success at our clinics. This is because we offer advanced and personalized treatments to help our patients build their families.
Since the group’s inception in 2009, our team of professionals has helped bring over 10,000 babies into the world. Our pregnancy rates exceed the Spanish average: 8 out of 10 patients using PGT become pregnant, and 9 out of 10 egg donation patients achieve pregnancy.
Our group consistently invests in science, innovation, and cutting-edge technology. Our extensive experience allows us to shorten the average stay in Spain required to successfully complete fertility treatment. Additionally, we have patient care assistants who speak various languages and ensure personalized follow-up for each treatment throughout the entire process, from start to finish.
How many international patients do you receive per year?
International patients now account for 70% of all treatments we perform annually at our clinics, making us a reference in assisted reproduction in countries like Germany and France.
What regions or countries do patient come from?
Our patients come from various parts of the world, from Australia to America, and from Asia to Africa. However, Germany, the UK, and France are the main countries that trust our treatments, with over a thousand foreign patients visiting our clinics each year.
Regarding the American market, we have extensive experience with patients from the USA. Given that the leading countries in assisted reproduction are Spain and the USA, American patients are attracted to our country by the lower cost of treatments, which is significantly different from the USA, but with the same quality they would expect in their home country.
Patients coming from the USA can be assured that the entire process is carried out with maximum transparency and secure payment methods.
The diversity of our patients reflects our global reputation and the trust they place in us for their fertility treatments.
Do you have any patient stories you would like to share?
We have many stories to tell. In fact, each patient comes with a different and unique story, and our goal is always to ensure a happy ending. Among them is the story of Darlene and Richard, a couple from New York who, after six unsuccessful treatments at clinics in the USA, decided to explore new options. “We felt we had to do something different,” they explained. After researching assisted reproduction treatments in Europe, they chose IVF-Life in Spain.
They highlight their experience by saying, “We never felt alone. When you have an incredible team of doctors and an incredible staff with you, you know you can achieve what you really want, to create a family, and that is exactly what we achieved,” they assure.
For them, “IVF-Life has excellent statistics, exceptional patient care, and a great medical team.”
As advice to couples going through the same situation, they add, “You can’t lose hope with each loss. We dreamed of creating a life, and now we have it, and it’s better than we thought. We wouldn’t change anything about the process and are grateful every day. Some babies come into the world naturally, and our daughter is a medical miracle who came into the world through many hearts.”
How do you see the future of medical travel?
The demand for high-quality fertility treatments grows each year, and technology and innovation continue to improve the patient experience. Additionally, telemedicine and other digital tools are facilitating access to medical care, allowing patients to receive consultations and follow-ups without the need to travel.
At IVF-Life, we have designed a treatment program in just five steps: initial contact with one of our patient care specialists; medical consultation with our professionals, where you will receive all the information about the treatments and which is most suitable for your case (this contact can be done in person, but it is also very common to do it online); treatment, with the best guarantees and comfort (preparation can be done from the USA without having to come to Spain); puncture (if necessary) and transfer, we adapt to your schedule so that you decide the timing (in this case, the assistance would be in Spain, but we can coordinate schedules to take advantage of vacations or the best time for the patient); and results and next steps, patients can return home after the transfer with medication and a new plan until the 12th week of pregnancy, although their patient assistant will remain in contact with them until after the birth.
What is something unique that you do as a healthcare Business?
For the entire IVF-Life team, each patient is unique, and therefore, we firmly believe in personalized treatments and exquisite care for our patients, through our doctors and assisted reproduction experts, and our patient care staff who will be in constant contact throughout the process. We understand that everything related to fertility carries a high emotional burden, so we strive every day to offer comprehensive and empathetic support to each patient.
Our medical team takes the necessary time to get to know each patient and tailor treatments to their specific needs, greatly improving the experience and results. Additionally, each patient has an assistant who will guide and accompany them throughout the process, resolving any doubts that may arise at any time. It is also important to highlight that each clinic has a 24-hour phone line to attend to any emergencies.
In other words, despite the distance or time zone, we provide constant follow-up for all our patients, making them feel as if they were in the clinic.
We offer various services beyond the treatment itself. We can arrange accommodation for patients, pick them up at the airport, and handle everything surrounding the treatment. Therefore, patients will be accompanied from their arrival in Spain until they can return home, both by the medical team and the nursing and patient care team.
What services do you offer to medical travelers?
We offer a comprehensive range of services for our international patients, including assistance with travel and accommodation, translation and support in their native language, and continuous follow-up during and after treatment. Our goal is to make the process as comfortable as possible.
Spain is one of the leading countries in fertility, boasting advanced technology and many years of experience. The quality of our treatments is excellent.
Moreover, these treatments can be accessed at a significant cost saving. Patients can save a lot of money even when considering travel, accommodation, and even tourism expenses. Additionally, Spain has easy access with a great infrastructure of direct flights, not to mention the unique beauty of the three cities where our clinics are located: Alicante, Madrid, and San Sebastián.
Furthermore, our waiting times are shorter, and the Spanish legal framework allows access to treatments such as egg donation, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, and maternity for female couples. Of course, in Spain, the privacy and anonymity of individuals undergoing these treatments, as well as that of egg and sperm donors, are guaranteed.
What medical procedures do you offer?
Spanish legislation is among the most flexible in the world, allowing IVF-Life to offer access to virtually all treatments available in the USA, with an excellent quality standard. These include fertility preservation, artificial insemination, IVF, the ROPA method (aimed at female couples), treatments with egg and sperm donation, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis, but at a cost that can be up to one-sixth of what the same treatment would cost in the United States.
All of this opens many doors for our patients to achieve their pregnancy.
Why do you think Better by MTA is so great for the industry?
Better by MTA will help improve the experience of international patients by providing access to trusted providers and exploring different treatment options, which greatly assists those seeking the best option.
